Zhu Zhu Pets Toys - Do Not Choose the Wrong Hamster

The Zhu Zhu Pets toy lineup is manufactured by a company called Cepia LLC. Since the inception of Cepia in 2002, they have focused their efforts on producing fun kids' toys that truly push the boundaries of technology in comparatively inexpensive packages. A few of their more notable toy successes include the Glo-e bear, Hydro Max and Sky Raptors. The launch of the Zhu Zhu Pets toys (often misspelled Zoo Zoo Pets toys and even Zu Zhu Pets toys) has really catapulted the company to the forefront of the kids' toy tables and quite possibly onto becoming the best selling toy for 2009. Currently, the model range only includes the hamster pets and their accessories, but with such demand, who knows what the 'pet' lineup will include in the future.

For those of you that are looking to buy Zhu Zhu hamsters, this Christmas or beyond, then you essentially have a choice of four main hamster varieties and one exclusive hamster toy currently. Each different in color and each suited to different children because of the pet toy's individual characteristics and personalities. Choosing which one your kid will love and have the most fun with will depend on the parent buying the most suitable match to their child's personality.

Mr Squiggles is the bestselling hamster of the lot and has pretty much remained in that position since the launch of Zhu Zhu toys. If your child wants a fast and furious little critter, then Mr Squiggles may be the perfect choice. Light brown in color, he perhaps resemble a real hamster the most out of all five. Mr Squiggles loves to scurry and scoot at full speed and has some hysterical sounds when he bumps into anything in his way.

Pipsqueak is more or less the second most popular choice among kids but frequently topples Mr Squiggles for pole position periodically. Pipsqueak is a great soft yellow color that girls especially love. Pipsqueaks, like Mr Squiggles also loves to go fast in explore mode, but settle her down and put her into affection mode and your kids will spend hours heaping care and attention on her.

Num Nums is the true lady of the lot and perhaps the most fussy of all the hamster pack. She loves to explore around and fuss over everything, making all of the sounds and noises that she makes so well. Don't let this fool you though, in explore mode she is certainly able to scoot around as good as the next hamster toy. Num Nums has a passion for food and loves to spend time in the Funhouse hamster kitchen, kids love to watch and listen to all of the sounds she makes in there.

Chunk is the snow white hamster of the Zhu Zhu Pets range and girls love the color, but both girls and boys alike love his personality. Chunk is the surfer dude of them and likes to take life easy and enjoy everything in his world in a calm and relaxed manner. His priority is not to scoot and scurry continuously like Mr Squiggles or Pipsqueak, but he is more content at his own pace. Where Chunk really comes into his own is when he does what he does best - surfing. Kids love to watch Chunk get on board his board and show them all of his cool moves and make all of his cute noises like only Chunk can.

Patches is the Zhu Zhu pet that is only available as part of a bundled package. The most widely available packages if you want to buy Zhu Zhu Patches, includes the Funhouse or hamster House Starter Set. Patches is darker yellow in color with a large white patch on its back. Patches loves the flowers and in explore mode, goes about hunting them out.

Dwarf Hamster Toys

Dwarf hamsters love anything which makes them run around and provides them with exercise. After all, these are creatures of the wild which have grown to become domesticated, but one must not forget that like all wild creatures, they are extremely active and require adequate exercise for their physical and mental well being.

Providing a toy for your pet hamster is going the extra mile towards expressing your affection for it, and hamsters are really quite easy to please. Any toy which gives their tiny legs some exercise like a hamster wheel is a good option. Hamster wheels come in both plastic and metal forms. The only word of caution is to ensure that the rungs are placed at close distance from each other to prevent injury to the hamster's legs as it runs around.

Hamster balls are another cute option. Especially when you are cleaning its home, you can roll the ball on the ground and watch it playing with it. It keeps it occupied while you can do the cleaning.

Given below are a few home made toy options:

Roll a wad of tissue paper tightly and let the dwarf hamster play with it. While rolling it around and then probably shredding it, your dwarf hamster is sure to have loads and loads of fun.

Empty plastic bottles can be used to create a little tunnel. By widening the mouth area of a plastic bottle and removing its base, you can attach a series of bottles, creating an innovative tunnel for it to scuttle around in.

Hamster ladders also provide a lot of entertainment. Take two 20 centimeter pieces of wood and bore equally spaced holes in them. Cut up smaller pieces of wood and fix it to the larger pieces of wood, and you have just created a small ladder! The only word of caution is to ensure that the wood pieces are sandpapered to avoid rough edges.

Rope Walkway - create a rope bridge by taking a length of rope, and tying equally spread out knots and then tie the rope bridge across the cage. The hamster will move from one end of the cage to the other by walking on this little bridge or by crawling through the knots.

A small swing - All that you need is a small and flat piece of wood. Make two holes on either ends of the wood. Tie two ropes and fasten the ropes to the roof of the cage. Hamsters will love to swing on it and play around with it.

Food tube - Make your hamster earn its food by taking a cylindrical cardboard tube and filling it with food. Squash one end of it flat and squeeze this end vertically into the cage from the top. The rodent smells the food inside, but cannot get at it because the mouth of the cardboard tube is squashed. Hence, it chews its way through the cardboard and is rewarded with food.

Who said that it is only humans who have all the fun? Make your hamster's life a happy one by going the extra mile and providing it with some good fun!

Dwarf Hamster Toys - Make Them Yourself

Toys are a big part of any dwarf hamster's life. Not only are they fun for the hamsters, but it's always fun for anyone watching them play with the toys. There are a great number of toys available at the pet store, but you don't always have to buy them. Homemade dwarf hamster toys are an excellent way to provide your hamster with some fun and excitement. In fact, homemade toys can sometimes be better than store bought toys. Plus they're free!

Of course you still need your staple dwarf hamster toys. You will always need a dwarf hamster wheel and most likely you will be buying this one since it will be difficult (to say the least) to make one yourself. Another staple, the chew toy, is a bit different. You can use a small twig. Just make sure there are no chemicals on it. But I don't consider a twig you can find outside a homemade toy. What I mean by home made dwarf hamster toys are the toys that aren't necessary like a wheel or a chew toy, but toys that could be considered extras and provide great fun for your hamster.

What we're talking about are toys that will make your hamster's living area livelier. Yes, this includes toilet paper rolls, but there's much more you can do than that. We're talking about tunnels, rooms, mazes, swings, bridges, ladders, platforms, you name it! The great thing about all these is that you can construct them all fairly easily with cardboard. Take the maze for instance. With a few arts and crafts tools, you can easily make a fun maze for your hamster to tunnel through (just make sure the walls are tall enough so that he can't cheat by climbing over them). Another example is putting a piece of string through a toilet paper roll and hanging it from the top of the cage. You've just made a swinging tunnel.

But how do you get him to play with the maze, tunnel, or swing? The key to getting your dwarf hamster to play with the new toys are with treats. I'm sure you've all heard of a mouse maze with a piece of cheese at the end. Well, just put a few pumpkin seeds or other dwarf hamster food at the end of the maze and he will smell it and go for it. Put some on the swing and he will climb up and play on it. After he realizes how fun it is, he'll be coming back in no time.
